Oystercatcher - Haematopus ostralegus

Maximum length: 40-45cm.
Appearance: Long, orange bill, pink legs, black and white plumage. Has a penetrating, shrill call.
Feeding: Oystercatchers are carnivores, they use their bills to probe in sand and mud to find small invertebrates.
Environment: Oystercatchers are common around most seashores but may travel some way inland along estuaries. 
Other facts: Apart from the narrow, probing bill, oystercatchers have long legs with webbed feet for walking around on soft mud in estuaries.
Classification: Oystercatchers are a member of the vertebrate group birds.
